Crown Heights tenants rally over building conditions

Residents in two Crown Heights buildings took the streets for a rally Saturday, claiming that their landlords are ignoring repair requests and overcharging them for rent.

The Brooklyn 100: Donna Mossman and Esteban Giron, Crown Heights Tenant Union

​Donna Mossman is a founding member of the Crown Heights Tenant Union, Esteban Giron is a member and leader in the CHTU who started the Court Solidarity Committee. Working together they are fighting gentrification by educating tenants on their rights and organizing tenant associations building by building, block by block.

The residents say they’ve called their property management company, Renaissance Realty, but they say nothing is ever done. They believe the landlords are trying to push them out. Some saying they’re charged too much for rent.
