Tenants in this rent-stabilized building – many of whom moved in in the ’70s with government rental assistance – are fighting sudden rent increases of up to 120% due to the landlord revoking a long-standing rent restriction on the building called “Preferential Rent.” City officials have tried to negotiate a deal that would restore the building’s affordability, but Renaissance has refused to cooperate, requesting $500,000 per unit to sell to a non-profit owner.

Building Stats:

  • Units: 27
  • Open HPD Violations: 77
  • Class C “immediately hazardous” Violations: 5

"Most of us have 1- or 2-year leases and if you didn't sign your lease before they took over, the new management sent us new leases for double or triple our rent in most cases."
